Our History

Graeme Walters

Managing Director

“Chase was borne out of a desire to do better. When I look back to my first experiences working in the industry, firstly I am pleased I can still remember the 1970’s but also the lessons learnt that, without knowing it, were the beginning of Chase.

My first role within the industry was with the largest packaging merchant of the time who excelled at customer service but countered that with an exorbitant pricing policy.

After 11 years I moved to another position within the industry. Here I was educated in how not to do things, whilst the pricing may have been cheap, the service levels were non existent and there was a justification of adding profit by not supplying what the customer thought they were buying.

I could no longer justify working in that environment, I wanted better, and believed that it was possible to act ethically whereby both the customer and supplier enjoyed a mutually beneficial relationship. The die was cast and in 1986, Chase Packaging was formed as a merchant with the intention of offering competitive pricing and service levels that, to this day remain unequalled.

The company continued to grow until it became clear we had to take the next step by expanding into manufacturing. Firstly Polythene, followed by Corrugated Cartons.

These important steps meant that rather than being reliant on others, we have our own in house manufacturing which has the advantage of guaranteeing the continuation of our service levels but also allowing for more competitive pricing by removing the “middle man”. The business not only offers an extensive range of stock products but the ability to supply bespoke items within a matter of days rather than weeks.

In 2004 the continued growth of the business resulted in our opening a purpose built manufacturing site in Wolverhampton and to this day we retain the status of being nominated suppliers for numerous “High Street” multiples whose demands we meet on a “just in time” supply basis where by customer stockholding, for a variety of reasons are kept to an absolute minimum.

Chase truly is a family company, in every sense of the word. My son Mathew joined the business in 1995 firstly working as a warehouse assistant, then moving into production as a machine operator and thereafter being given an administration role within the sales office. Having worked his way through the business, he is now part of a team that looks after the day to day running of the business. My eldest grandson has also recently joined us, intent on continuing the ethos that has served us well for so many years - the future of the business is in good hands!”
